Based from the movie Sherlock Holmes - A Study In Pink, from my point of view Sherlock Holmes himself is an emphatic person. There are several reasons why I sees him as an emphatic person.
First of all, he puts himself in that particular persons shoe. He acted as if he is that particular person. He imagined himself that he is someone else in terms of that person's clothing, the person's way of communication and the person's way of behavior. One of the scene that we can see when the case of the death of Jennifer Wilson, the women in pink who was the fourth person known to be committed suicide. He imagined how Jennifer's death is like, what and when she did before her death. Thus Sherlock was able to trace the murderer in the end.

In addition, emphatic means energetic or in other words active describes the character of Sherlock Holmes. His emphatic character makes him energetic as what being seen in the movie. He can catch up with a cab driver with human speed and were able to track the cab with his powerful memory of identifying the road in order to intercept the cab and because of his remarkable ability he was able to catch up with the cab. And even in an action moment, Sherlock can still being emphatic by putting himself in the cab driver's shoe. Predicting every moment and step the cab driver would choose his path on which road around the city. Thus makes Sherlock Holmes a good tracker.
Moreover, Sherlock helps to benefit others shows his character emphatically towards his companion Dr John Watson. He imagined himself being in his friends place because of Dr Watson's inability to walk properly and thus requires a walking stick to walk around. In the scene where he chased the cab, he purposely allowed Dr John Watson to run with him without using his walking stick. Sherlock knew that Watson can walk without his stick but because Watson is traumatize with his experience in Afghanistan, he was unable to do so. So Sherlock purposely asked him to follow Sherlock to chase after the cab and it somehow changes Dr John Watson 's perception about his leg and he can run and walk without the aid of his walking stick.
Last but not least, Sherlock also being emphatic on the situation where he meet the murderer who killed the four person which is the cab driver. He was also being given a choice to select between the two pills. One would end his life and the other won't. He was trying to put his situation on the cab driver's shoe but he realize that he is dealing with a psychopath. Because the cab driver doesn't care about his life and selecting the pills is like a give and take situation. But the problem was settled when Dr Watson give a shot on the cab driver through the window in order to stop the game.
In conclusion, basically Sherlock Holmes is a emphatic person due to the fact of his personality that letting himself in someone's shoe in terms of feelings, thinking and perception which he uses to solve crimes.
